Dan and Mayone agree that they first met eachother when walking down a corridor at Church College of Hawaii.
In September of 1963 Mayone was walking with her new friend Wilson Fatafehi, a friendly Tongan from Fiji, who had been the first person to introduce himself to her when she arrived from Utah. Wilson was also a friend of Dan's.
When Mayone and Wilson passed Dan on the walkway that day, Wilson stopped Dan and said to Mayone: "I want you to meet my good friend. His name is 'Daniel', you know, like 'Daniel in the Lion's Den' ?"
Dan wondered if Wilson and Mayone were dating and was later relieved to find out they were 'just friends'. Wilson went on to play football at the University of Hawaii. And Dan... well Dan was free to pursue Mayone.
