When Muli arrived in Hawaii in 1962 the Dole Pineapple Company was recruiting pineapple pickers. Muli was a good target- he needed money and he was a hard worker.

Muli worked in the pineapple fields for three summers (1962, 1963, 1964).
Muli's paychecks from working in the pineapple fields were saved to buy a ring for Mayone.
Perhaps this began Mayone's love for pineapples?
